Preliminary election for City Council Sep. 12

There will be a preliminary election for City Council on Tuesday, September 12. Polls open at 7am and close at 8pm.

Preliminary elections are used to narrow the field of candidates for local office prior to the general election. They are held only when they are deemed necessary due to the number of candidates on the ballot. Note that municipal elections are officially non-partisan, so there are no party-specific ballots.

You must be registered to vote in Medford by this Wednesday, August 23, 8pm, to vote in the preliminary election. You can register to vote at Medford City Hall (rm. 102) or online.

Save the dates: Municipal candidate nights

The following dates have been held by the Democratic City Committee for a series of candidate nights:

  • Thursday, October 12
  • Wednesday, October 18
  • Thursday, October 26

These events will provide a forum to hear from the City Council, School Committee, and Mayoral candidates. Details, including time, location, and which candidates will be featured on which night, will be announced at a later date.

Medford Democrats to host open house, rally support for Hillary Clinton

Do you want to see the most qualified, level-headed candidate elected to the White House in November? Do you feel that, as a resident of a “blue state,” there’s nothing you can do to change the outcome of the national election?

There are things you can do to make a difference. The first step is showing up.

The Medford Democratic City & Ward Committees invite you to an open house Thursday, September 15, at 7pm, at the Medford Public Library (111 High Street). Party leaders, campaign volunteers, and local elected officials will offer ideas for how you can help Hillary Clinton win this November’s election. You’ll also learn how you can become part of the Medford Democrats’ “Engine of Change” and contribute to ongoing improvement in our city, our commonwealth, and our country.

Again, it all starts with the single step of showing up on September 15!

Mayoral and School Committee Candidates’ Night Forum

Reminder! This Wednesday, October 16, please join the Medford Democratic City Committee for a Mayoral and School Committee Candidates’ Night Forum. The forum starts at 7pm and will be held at Medford City Hall, in the Alden Chambers on the second floor. The candidates for Mayor will speak from 7 to 8pm, while candidates for School Committee will speak from 8 to 10pm.

The Medford Democratic Party will be holding two Candidates’ Night Forums with a local focus on the Mayoral, School Committee and highly contested City Council races.

The Mayoral and School Committee forum will be held on October 16th beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Alden Chambers at City Hall.  Candidates will be asked questions by guest panelists, including a representative from the Medford Transcript, Robin Baker, a Medford parent of a recent MHS graduate and Manager of Community Performances & Partnerships at the Celebrity Series of Boston and panelist Doreen Wade, owner of New England Informer newsmagazine.

The City Council forum will be held on October 23rd beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Alden Chambers at City Hall. Guest panelists will include the Medford Transcript, a member of the Medford Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs committee and William Young, retired labor union organizer and Chairman of the Medford Housing Authority.

Both events will be televised live on the local Educational Channel.

This year’s moderators for the event are Democratic City and Ward Committee members Michael Lungo, Henry Milorin and Carolyn Rosen.

The public is invited to attend these informational events to see and hear the candidates running in the general election on the November 5th ballot.
