Press release: Upcoming candidates forums

From Carolyn Rosen:

The Medford Democratic Party will be holding two Candidates’ Night Forums with a local focus on the highly contested School Committee and City Council races.

The School Committee forum will be held on October 7th beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Alden Chambers at City Hall with a small reception at 7:00 p.m.  Candidates will be asked questions by guest panelists, who will include representatives of the local newspapers, the Medford Transcript and the Medford Daily Mercury, with the addition this year of Medford’s newest online newspaper Insidemedford.com.   Our guest citizen panelist this year is community activist Gwen Blackburn, Chairperson for the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Racial Imbalance Advisory Council.

The City Council forum will be held on October 21st beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Alden Chambers at City Hall with a small reception at 6:30 p.m.  Candidates will be asked questions by representatives from the Medford Transcript, the Medford Mercury and Insidemedford.com.

Both events will be televised live on Channel 16.

This year’s moderators for the event are Democratic City and Ward Committee members, former State Representative Anthony Giglio and Carolyn Rosen.

The public is invited to attend these informational events to see and hear the candidates running in the general election on the November 6th ballot.

Ward caucuses

The ward caucuses to elect delegates to this spring’s Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention will be held Saturday, February 7, at 10 a.m. sharp at Medford City Hall. Anyone registered in Medford as a Democrat as of December 31, 2008 is eligible to vote for delegates and/or be nominated as a candidate for delegate. There are no absentee votes, and individuals who are not present may only be nominated as candidates if a seat has no in-person nominees.

Thank you!

Just a belated thank you to all who campaigned and voted for Democratic candidates and who worked to oppose question 1 in this election. The results reaffirm Medford’s and the country’s commitment to Democratic values. Congratulations to all!
