Canvass this Sunday

Medford organizers:

Did you see the debate Tuesday night?  If you did, I’m sure you agree that Deval Patrick is running on very different values than Charlie Baker and Tim Cahill.  For example, the state’s budget is not a math problem–and it is vital that we have someone there who sees the human faces behind these decisions.  You can help us win by spending a couple of hours knocking on doors.

When:  Sunday, September 26, 1 pm
Where:  80 George St., Medford (near Tufts)
RSVP by email or call 617-921-3608

Our fourth joint canvass:  Governor Deval Patrick/Lt. Gov. Tim Murray, Senator Pat Jehlen and Rep. Sciortino.

Thanks,
Larry Field
Deputy Field Director

Another canvas this Sunday

Medford organizers:

The primaries are over, the weather is getting cooler–and a tough contest between Democrats and Republicans is in the air.  What you do now can make the difference between finishing what we started and four painful years of hand-wringing.  And we’ve been having fun on the doors!

When:  Sunday, 1 pm
Where:  Tufts Park–benches in front of the South Medford Fire Station.
RSVP by email or call 617-921-3608

Our third joint canvass:  Governor Deval Patrick/Lt. Gov. Tim Murray, Senator Pat Jehlen and Rep. Sciortino.

Thanks,

Larry Field
Deputy Field Director

House party for 9th Worcester candidate

Dear Friends,

The 9th Worcester race is an opportunity for Democrats to take back a seat in the State House, but also a chance to disrupt the Republican leadership. Tim Dodd is a young Democrat running for State Representative to represent Grafton, Upton, Northbridge, and Westborough against an incumbent Republican: Assistant Minority Leader George Peterson, Jr. You can learn more about Tim Dodd here: http://timothyadodd.com/

Please join me in supporting Mr. Dodd:
Thursday, July 15th from 7-9pm
24 Bowen Ave, Medford, MA 02155

I will be serving cheese and crackers and wine, and Tim Dodd will be joining us. Tim is a teacher, and therefore unable to solicit donations for himself. I hope you’ll stop by and make a contribution. If you can’t make it or you’d like to support Tim online, you can do so here: http://www.actblue.com/page/elainefordodd

Details are viewable in the attached Word Doc, or on Facebook.

Hope to see you all there!

Coakley campaign seeks local phone bankers

A message from Ms. Elaine Tassinari:

I am the town coordinator for Medford for Martha Coakley for Senate Campaign.

Today, I’m writing looking to see if you are able to help me make phone calls to voters from Jan 9-19th. The general election is on Jan 19th.    I have a phonebank up and running at Century 21 Advance on Salem St. Medford. That is Mike Hayes office.

If you cannot help, I’m asking if you can suggest where I may find some Medford or local volunteers to help me in the evenings and weekends making calls for Voter ID’s.

These are not solicitation calls, we simply ask who voters are supporting.   It’s a fun and collegial way to spend a couple of hours.

My Goal:  to make 500 calls a night.   Over a period of 10 days that is 5,000 calls.

These calls go very quickly. I supply volunteers with phone lists of who to call and a short script.

There are about 12 phonelines open, so if I could add another 10 volunteers I would be very grateful. The more volunteers I have the less burden on all of them and I can then rotate through them.

Thanks for all your help!

[Update 1/7/10: The campaign is specifically looking for phone bank volunteers this Saturday, January 9, from 12-6.]

Ward 8 opposes question 1

At last week’s meeting of the Medford Ward 8 Democratic Committee, the membership voted unanimously to join the Medford Democratic City Committee in opposing this November’s ballot question 1. The question would eliminate the state income tax, costing the state approximately 40% of its annual revenue. The Coalition For Our Communities estimates that eliminating the state income tax would lead to the Medford Public Schools losing 71% of their state funding and the city losing over $10 million (65%) of its state funding. This would guarantee a dramatic increase in property taxes, major cuts in city and school programs, and a bunch of new taxes and fees at the state and local levels to help pay for the deficit.

This is a reckless idea, and the ward 8 committee strongly encourages all voters to vote no on question 1 in November. We also encourage you to help spread the word through phone banks, sign holding, and/or lawn signs.
